Beverley’s bicycle racing corer had been cut short to her after sustaining a work related injury in 1995, which has left her a (T11 SCI) paraplegic. She did go through a severe depression, loosing the life dream of becoming an Olympic racer in 1996, following with entering the professional racing district.

Beverley, having the competitive spirit about her knew that there had to be some sort of competitive sport for the wheelchair user. It was in the early summer of 1999, she moved to London, Ontario, and through the meeting of a London, Wheelchair, Basketball, Association (LWBA) member while she was waiting in line at a cinema, she met Mike Gander. Mike told Beverley about the weekly summer basketball league practices at a local community centre, and from there she has been learning the game of wheelchair basketball, and very much enjoying the sport of basketball.
